CAROLINAS GOLF ASSOCIATION 'INTERCLUB' INFORMATION

 

Interclub Overview:

  • The CGA runs five (5) Interclub competitions annually. Regular Season is March - July. Playoffs start Late July/early August.
  • The 'Carolinas' Division is for players ages 18 and older. The 'Senior' Division for players ages 55 and older. The 'Super Senior' Division is for players ages 65 and older. The 'Women's' Division (NEW in 2026) is for players ages 18 and older. The 'Gross' Division is for players 18 and older.
  • Interclub competition is open to all CGA members and member clubs in good standing.
    • 355 total teams competed in 2025 representing 140 CGA Member Clubs!
    • Over 5,500 golfers competed in at least one (1) 2025 Regular Season match!
  • Carolinas, Senior, Super Senior Divisions format:
    • Players compete for match points in a Net Four-Ball Match Play format. Each hole is worth 1 point with an additional 2 points being awarded to the winning side of each match. The team that wins the majority of points (40½) wins the overall match. 80 match points are available in each team vs team match.
    • Players compete to 85% of the difference in the Unrounded Course Handicaps from the player with the lowest Playing Handicap in each foursome, based on their 12-month Low Handicap Index (Low H.I.).
  • Women's Division format
    • Players compete for match points in a Net Four-Ball Match Play format. Each hole is worth 1 point with an additional 2 points being awarded to the winning side of each match. The team that wins the majority of points (20½) wins the overall match. 40 match points are available in each team vs team match.
    • Players compete to 85% of the difference in the Unrounded Course Handicaps from the player with the lowest Playing Handicap in each foursome, based on their 12-month Low Handicap Index (Low H.I.).
    • All players compete from the same tee. Teams must select and player from a tee that is between 4,700 - 5,300 yards.
  • Gross Division format
    • Players compete for match points in a Four-Ball Match Play format. Each hole is worth 1 point with an additional 2 points being awarded to the winning side of each match. The team that wins the majority of points (40½) wins the overall match. 80 match points are available in each team vs team match.
    • There are no handicaps in this division. All players compete at scratch and can be paired in any order. All players compete from the same tee. Teams must select and play from a tee that is as close to 6,400 yards as possible.
  • At each match, the home team charges a cart fee only. No Greens Fees are charged. Please review the Responsibilities/Requirements page HERE.
  • The Deadline to register is in February each year. (April 1 for mountain clubs closed for winter).
  • For Carolinas, Senior & Super Senior Division teams, the entry fee is $400 per team.
  • For Women's and Gross Division teams, the entry fee is $200 per team.

 

Teams:

  • Teams that enter will play other clubs locally and are part of a local 'Pod.'
  • Pods are made up of three (3), four (4), five (5) or six (6) teams. Clubs are responsible for forming their Pods.
  • Clubs MUST pre-form their own Pod. New teams/clubs may request contact information for existing Pods from the CGA Interclub Committee. The CGA Interclub Committee does Not and will NOT place teams in Pods. If your club needs a Pod, please fill out the Find a Pod SurveyIf a team cannot find a pod, a FULL refund will be issued.
  • Clubs can submit more than one team in one or more divisions but MUST have different team rosters and have a minimum of 12 players on each team (players are limited to one team per division).
  • The total number of players on a TEAM roster is unlimited, however a Minimum of 12 players on a TEAM roster to compete in CGA Interclub is required. Age eligible team members can compete in multiple divisions, but on only one (1) Team per Division.
  • Captains meeting(s) are held in February via Zoom to review Interclub & Match Play Rules/Pod assignments/Captains Duties/Golf Genius Tasks.

 

Matches:

  • Carolinas division matches are played primarily on weekends but may be played on weekdays. Senior Super Senior & Women's divisions matches are primarily played on weekdays but may be played on weekends. Clubs with a team in multiple divisions may host home matches on the same day but players are limited to one match per day.
  • Each team plays 6 matches Regular Season matches between March and Mid-July (3 Home & 3 Away). Playoffs are single elimination and begin in late July/early August.
  • Match rosters consist of 8 players competing from each team on the day of a match (16 total are competing in 4, four-ball matches). Pairings are set in Low to High, Low Handicap Index order.
  • Pod standings are determined by their won/loss/tie records. Accumulated match points are used to determine playoff spots/seeding.
  • The top 64 teams in the Carolinas, Senior & Super Senior divisions qualify for their respective division's playoffs. 1st place teams in each pod automatically qualify. 2nd place teams in 5 & 6 team Pods also qualify. Any at-large spots will be determined based on Regular Season record/accumulated match points.
  • The “Final-Four” (Semi-Finals and Championship Matches) is hosted simultaneously by the CGA for each division.

 

Interclub Eligibility Requirements:

  • Carolinas, Senior, Super Senior & Women's Divisions
    • Must be amateur male/female members (exception: 1 non-amateur may compete (optional), but must also meet all other eligibility requirements. I.E. Head pro; Director of Golf; member with pro status but does NOT compete professionally)
    • Must be actively listed on the club’s GHIN handicap roster, have an established 12-month Low Handicap Index (Low H.I.), and have a minimum of 10 posted scores within the last 12-months of the match date (Note - it takes 20 posted scores to establish a 12-month Low Handicap Index)
    • There is no minimum or maximum Low H.I. for any division
    • Must be, as of the applicable match date, at least 18 years old for Carolinas Division; 55 for Senior Division; 65 for Super Senior Division, 18 for Women's Division (players may become age eligible in-season but MUST NOT compete until becoming of age)
    • Must not have played for another club or team in the current year within the same division
    • Must be in good standing with their respective club and the CGA
  • Gross Division

  • Players may play in multiple divisions, if age eligible, but are limited to playing on one (1) team per division.
    • Multi-club members may compete for multiple clubs, but NOT within the same division.
